"This is a digital-only EP of covers of songs that have shone light in my life when i have needed it. The original artists all happen to be women too.

As a self-identified feminist, I have been thinking more and more lately about how I can challenge patriarchy and my own male privilege in my everyday life. I figured I should do something with my musical output, so I decided to record some covers.

It is important to me that the songwriters here are all women: I have a hard time thinking of many male songwriters paying tribute/homage to female songwriters. It is also important to me that these are not just random/tokenized selections of female artists, but that these songs have personal significance in my life. I consider these women heroes.

When I learned that NDE Records has this page that donates all proceeds to RAINN, I thought that would be a great thing to be a part of, in the same spirit as this release. Luckily for me, Christina not only agreed to release this EP through NDE Records, but to contribute the art. I asked her about her experience with mental illness and her bird, Ben, as a symbol of health and recovery, and it all came together quite well I think.

I hope you enjoy these songs and I hope you will consider donating to RAINN (R*pe Abuse Incest National Network), a large anti-sexual-violence organization that provides services and support to survivors.
